King’s Day

In Spain, and other parts of the world, today is King’s Day or El Día de los Reyes (The Day of the Kings).  It’s celebrated as the day when The Wise Men presented their gifts to the Baby Jesus, after following the star.

When my husband grew up, he would put his shoes at the bottom of his bed and wake up with candy and money stuffed inside. Occasionally, he would get a toy car or a cowboy hat. They didn’t receive elaborate gifts from Santa on Christmas Morning.

Today, some people are beginning to celebrate Christmas with a Tree and Papa Noel (Santa). Others are incorporating both customs.

Last night, my husband’s cousin left this out for her children.

Instead of leaving cookies and milk for Santa, they left cookies and milk for the Three Wise Men. The letter says, “Dear Kings, We‘ve been very good and for that reason, please leave us lots of cars and dolls. Kisses.”

Under a modest tree, they received many goodies.

Happy King’s Day to all!
